CCMT 2026 Unveils Theme: "Digital, Interconnected, Smart Manufacturing" Ushers in a New Era
The 14th China CNC Machine Tool Exhibition (CCMT 2026), held this past April in Shanghai, showcased the industry's evolution — from standalone machining equipment to integrated intelligent solutions — under the theme "Digital · Interconnected · Smart Manufacturing."

Marking a significant milestone, the exhibition has expanded to an unprecedented 202,000 square meters, hosting over 2,000 enterprises from 27 countries and regions. The shift in product mix was striking: lathe exhibits surged by 25.9% year-on-year, while five-axis turn-mill complex machining centers alone reached 53 units (19.1% of the total). In aggregate, five-axis simultaneous linkage machine tools numbered 441, accounting for 36.8% of all exhibits— a telling sign that five-axis technology has evolved from a "bottleneck" to an "industry entry ticket."

More significantly, intelligentization has moved from conceptual discourse to real-world deployment. The deep integration of AI and IoT with machine tools has become pervasive across exhibits — from AI thermal compensation and intelligent programming to predictive maintenance, all now emerging as essential enablers for high-end precision machinery. On the digital side, digital twin technology enabled process simulation and program optimization within virtual spaces — together, these two fronts illustrate how intelligentization is reshaping both the machine and its digital counterpart.
Mao Yufeng, Secretary-General of the China Machine Tool & Tool Builders' Association, summed up the trend at the exhibition: exhibits have evolved from standalone equipment to integrated hardware-software system solutions — with CNC systems, sensors, on-machine measurement, and remote operation and maintenance now functioning as a unified toolkit. In his view, this marks a fundamental shift from "selling machines" to "delivering capabilities." Equally significant, domestic manufacturers are making headway in forward design capabilities. On the demand side, emerging applications such as new energy vehicle integrated die-casting and core components for humanoid robots are, in turn, pushing the machine tool industry to transition from "imitation and followership" to "independent definition."

What CCMT 2026 crystallized is a clear vision: CNC machine tools are advancing along two fronts. On one front, compound machining and five-axis capability have become baseline entry requirements. On another, AI and digitalization are transforming machine tools into closed-loop systems that perceive, decide, and execute — a shift from "dumb iron" to "intelligent executor." Embodying the CCMT 2026 theme of "Digital · Interconnected · Smart Manufacturing," China's CNC machine tool industry is transitioning from "usable" to "reliable," and from "import substitution" to "industry definition" — a journey that repositions Chinese manufacturing not as a follower, but as a shaper of what comes next.
